During September I made a trip up to the Arctic Circle for a climbing short featuring top British climber Hazel Findlay to promote a new drama for Sky One called 'You, me and the Apocalypse' . The good folks behind the project are the award winning team at Cut Media, known for their outstanding videos with mountain biker, Danny Macaskill - 'Imaginate' and 'The Ridge'.
We enjoyed two incredible days on the summit of a ridge in the east called Festvagtinden. Overlooking the small fishing village of Henningsvaer, this place is one of Norway's top climbing destinations.
Using the Inspire 1 was a great choice to capture the aerials as it was portable enough to strap to a rucksack leaving space enough for 7 flight batteries and two controllers. The slog up the hill each day took about an hour but it was more than worth it for the shots we got.
I flew out from the summit about 350m down to where Hazel was climbing up a route on Presten to get the shots required. The drone coped well with the turbulent winds around the ridgeline and the batteries lasted 12-15 minutes each flight (despite the cold) long enough to get a good variety of shots.
All in all a pretty successful shoot with a great team....and you can see the results below....
